A Peppol ID is a unique number combination just like your phone number in the telecom network. It consists of a Scheme ID (country code) and Participant ID (organization number). In Belgium mainly the KBO number is used as the organization number, in the Netherlands the KVK number. With this number, your organization can be found in the Peppol network and you can safely and efficiently receive and send e-invoices.
For example, Ixor's Peppol ID is 0208:0478493179
Scheme ID is a 4-digit code that provides information about the country and organization number.
Participant ID is the organization number, which is the VAT number or government-registered organization ID.
An organization's registered Peppol ID is easily found in the Peppol Directory.
A registered Peppol ID means that your organization is registered with SMP. SMP is a directory that stores your organization's metadata, what document types your organization can receive and what endpoint urls are used for receiving.
To receive electronic documents through the Peppol network, your organizations must register a Peppol ID. If you only want to send documents, you do not need a registered Peppol ID. However, you always need a valid organization number.
Peppol IDs allow senders and receivers to identify each other in the Peppol network.
More technical details about the peppol id can be found here.
To obtain a registered Peppol ID, you must register your organization with a Peppol-certified Access Point (AP), such as IxorDocs.
This access point, which meets the strict standards of the Peppol network, plays a vital role in assigning and managing Peppol IDs to participating organizations.
Fortunately, your registration is easy with IxorDocs.
Step 1: Register for an account here
Step 2: We validate your account and register your organization on SMP. Your Peppol ID has been created!
Step 3: You will receive an email notification about the activation of your account.

Hermes is a web application developed on behalf of BOSA. Thanks to Hermes, suppliers can send structured electronic invoices to all their Belgian clients, even those who cannot yet process these electronic invoices automatically.
To send an invoice through Peppol, create an account with a Peppol Access Point provider. You know your customer's Peppol identification (PEPPOL ID). You provide your provider with the structured electronic invoice. Your provider delivers your e-invoice to your customer's Peppol Access Point. Your client receives your invoice.
As the name suggests, a Peppol Access Point is your gateway to the Peppol network. It's a service you purchase from a service provider, such as IxorDocs (a certified Peppol Access Point). By using a certified Peppol Access Point, you can easily and securely send and receive e-invoices to and from any organization connected to the Peppol network, regardless of country or industry.
